Enlarged Phoenix Atlas Is A Sight for Sore Eyes

PHOENIX -Whether you regularly rely on maps to get around the Valley or are an occasional map user who wants a map that is easier to read, Wide World of Maps of Phoenix has just the map for you, in fact, a whole atlas. The Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas Professional Edition for 2004 is now available, and it's bigger and better than ever. This atlas has maps that are more than 60% larger scale (size) than a typical street map. Larger scale maps mean larger print for people who use street maps every day or for anyone needing a full-detail set of maps covering the entire metro area that are just easier to read and easier to use. The Professional Edition is based on the standard Phoenix Street Atlas, which is popularly referred to as the "Yellow One" for its bright yellow cover. Think of the Professional Edition as the "Big Yellow One." It has all the advantages of the standard edition with an important feature that no other Phoenix area street maps have: easy-to-read enlargement pages for many densely populated areas.

The concept for this atlas, which made its debut in 2002, was well researched with customers. According to James Willinger, president of Wide World of Maps, "We needed to respond to the pleas of thousands of map users who called or wrote to us to say that THEY WANTED A MAP WITH LARGER PRINT."

The idea was to discern which of the map pages had a large number of residential streets in close proximity. Out of the 64 map pages, with each page containing 36 square miles, Wide World of Maps found that 40 pages met the criterion of needing to be enlarged for further clarity. The pages were divided into four sections. In some cases, all four sections were heavily populated, while in others only two or three had a heavy population, and others perhaps only sparse patches of population. Each densely populated quarter- page was enlarged onto its own page, which then followed the original page. The original page could be followed by anywhere from one to four enlarged pages. Because of these changes, the Professional Edition is much thicker and heavier than the original Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas.

New for this year's edition are two additional map pages of the West Valley that reflect the current and future housing growth in that area, a CD-ROM that brings these maps to your computer including the comprehensive street index in an easy-to-use format, and a unique innovative set of peel-and-stick map page tabs for use in marking your most used pages for easy opening.

As with the original "Yellow One," the Professional Edition includes a handy foldout map in the back of the book showing the entire metropolitan area, and extra map pages show Metro Area Zip Codes, School Districts, and Area Codes. A special map detailing the ASU campus was also added along with an expanded Sky Harbor International Airport map, all with updated information.

In addition, the 56-page alphabetical street index lists the location and map reference to more than 15,000 streets. The 2004 Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas Professional Edition is available now for only $32.95 at map stores, better office supply stores, bookstores and blueprint shops. It can also be purchased by calling Wide World of Maps in Phoenix at 602-279-2323 or 800-279-7654, or visiting their website at www.maps4u.com.
