Resourceful recipes and practical home remedies collected by Alice Kirk Grierson from the 1850s to the 1880s from newspapers, magazines, friends, and relatives. Mrs. Grierson also penned many of her own recipes at the remote, West Texas army outpost of Fort Davis where her husband, Col. Benjamin H. Grierson, was the commander of the newly formed 10th Calvary.
This book preserves Alice Grierson's original recipes in brown ink with all old spelling forms and punctuation marks retained, then provides modern adaptations below in black ink if necessary.
